Scripture: Daniel 3:16-18
Scriptural Focus: GROW YOUR WORSHIP – BE TRUE TO WHO YOU ARE

Sermon Highlights:

  • Worship = The act of recognizing God, intensity, adoration, love
  • Worship is about:
    • giving to God
    • why I come to church
    • the main way I experience God
    • very personal
    • what God wants
  • Worship is emotion-filled, but NOT emotion-driven
  • Young people —  appreciate your parents!
  • When I am stripped of everything I have, what’s left is who I am. Who I am is very important. I am not junk!
  • Chapter 3 of Daniel has 30 verses. 4 verses mention music, 9 verses mention the burning fiery furnace (punishment) & 11 verses mention worship
  • Young people, don’t take music lightly! Music is a gift from God. Music is powerful, increases the level of feeling & emotion in a relationship. Be mindful of what you/I listen to. Music effects mind, movement. Mood, memory
  • King Nebuchadnezzar = the world. The statue in this story represents the way of the world, what everybody is doing.
  • When I hear the world’s music I must bow down & worship. My dilemma: WHO/WHAT will I worship?
  • Be myself! Dare to be different! I am exceptional!
  • When I go through the fire God will be with me! God is with me! I must stand up, stand out & stand firm in God
  • Don’t go along to get along! Trouble may come, I may be ostracized
  • Whose I am is always reflected in who I am!
  • Feeling good vs Being good – being good requires work
  • Focus on feelings = satisfaction, sensual, pleasure over responsibility. Focus on God = worship of God, being good
  • Then the king (God) promoted me!

–  Sermon In Action - Suggested Activities:

  • DON’T GO ALONG TO GET ALONG!
  • I AM EXCEPTIONAL!
  • I AM NOT JUNK!

  • Read and apply scripture:  Read and meditate on the sermon focus scripture Daniel 3:16-18, during your daily devotional this week. Get it into your spirit, and hide it in your heart.
  • Reflect & Write: Reflect on a time when you were a young person and you were asked to make a choice: between your parents or your friends, your grades or your fun, your faith or the crowd. Which one did you choose? In light of your history, experience and today’s sermon, write a letter to your young self this week explaining what they should choose and why.

  • Gratitude: Say a prayer of thanks and gratitude to your parents/care-givers for showing you and pointing out to you the right way to go or for showing you and pointing out to you the way NOT to go.

THE PARABLE OF PROSPERITY

Scripture: Matthew 13:18-23  Therman E. Evans - Morning Star Sermon In Action
Supporting Scriptures: 2 Corinthians 5:7 & 9:10, Romans 10:9, John 1:1-4 & 6:63, Psalm 118:7
Scriptural Focus: THE PARABLE OF PROSPERITY

Sermon Highlights:

  • The kingdom of God is all about being fruitful
  • This is the parable of sower from the perspective of a sower
  • BE A SOWER! A sower = is faithful, a dreamer, visionary, worker, doer, one who takes action, gets something done
  • A sower can look at what is, declare what it will be, & with God’s help, makes it happen!
  • God gives seed to the sower (me) – one who gets something done
  • A sower has faith. I am a sower by faith. A person of action who stands up to satan, the status quo, fear
  • I can make something grow right here, in this soil RIGHT HERE!
  • Focus on MY soil! Only haters don’t want me to grow, be fruitful & prosper
  • Sowers are serious! Sowers will do what is necessary! Sowers want fruit, expect fruit & will have fruit! Sowers gotta get fruit to get seed
  • A sower must be a rock breaker, weed-wacker, thorn tearer! Rocks = hard places, pathways, dry places (can’t get comfortable with the rocks!)
  • Sowers know soil!
  • Seed = idea, thought, concept, vision, dream, promise, perfect, complete, nothing missing, life-changing, life-impacting, life-transforming
  • Seed = The word of God. Seed is alive! Seed is life! Seed is Love! The word of God has life, wholeness
  • All seeds are small, some invisible. The seed is whole, perfect – everything God said is in it! My victory, abundance, prosperity is in the word of God. The word of God does the work
  • ALL soil receives seed! God still puts seed on my messed up soil! (Thank God!)
  • God knows I got some stuff in my dirt!
  • The seed is what the sower sows
  • God expects me to make something from my seed – to get what is in it to come out
  • The seed must be taken care of – watered, fed & fertilized. I water & fertilize my seed by my faithfulness, my prayer, my worship, my affirmations –  speak it!
  • Worship & praise God for who He is!
  • I am the soil, the soil is ME (my soul, my life, my mind, my thinking)! I am dirt!
  • I’m imperfect soil. God is STILL working on me, has work to do on me
  • Be a good mulberry bush!
  • I can’t be fruitful by myself. Dirt can do nothing on its own. Dirt must always have something placed in it to be fruitful
  • Soil can’t sow its own seed. Soil must receive seed
  • God wastes nothing! I can make a decision to change
  • I don’t determine when I’m going to see something. WHEN is always in the hands of God – and He always multiplies what has been sown
  • There are blessings in the air! I believe it’s my time! The wait is over!
  • Thank you God for your spirit!

Sermon In Action - Suggested Activities:

  • DAILY AFFIRMATIONS:Say at least 10x per day, throughout the day as passionately as possible and as early as possible in the day… (Add your favorites)
  • I AM A SOWER!
  • SOWERS ARE SERIOUS!
  • SOWERS KNOW SOIL!
  • ALL SOIL RECEIVES SEED!
  • I AM THE SOIL, THE SOIL IS ME!
  • THERE ARE BLESSINGS IN THE AIR!
  • MY WAIT IS OVER!
  • IF I REMAIN FAITHFUL GOD WILL MAKE ME FRUITFUL!
  • Faith is ALWAYS rewarded!

Write the affirmation(s) that resonate(s) the most ( or, print on computer – large font) and place it in several prominent places: your living space, your work space (if you are able), your car, bathroom mirror, near your bed… wherever it will be visible and can serve as a constant reminder of how you should be thinking, feeling, being and, of what you should be doing.

  • Read and apply scripture: Read the focus passage. What is one step you can take this week to ensure your soil is good soil? Identify a rock or two in your life and take a step towards breaking them up…
  • Reflect & Write: Think about a harvest you would like to receive. How large would you like it to be? How long lasting would you like it to be? Write down the seed you must sow in order to reap that particular harvest. What type of seed are you currently sowing? What harvest are you reaping from THOSE seeds?Reflect and then write about it.
  • Testify: Speak to your soil! Tell someone about a time when God deposited perfect seed in your dirt through a sermon message, a song, something you read, a conversation with a stranger. Don’t forget to include a description of the harvest you reaped from that seed!
  • Creative Application: Place a few small seeds from a fruit, vegetable or plant in a small plastic bag or envelope. Place that bag or envelope in your pocket or purse and carry it with you this week. When you see or feel the rocks (difficulty, people, places or things that challenge your character), weeds (worry and illusions about getting more and wanting everything under the sun) and thorns (painful experiences) of life, take out your seeds and remember this sermon. Affirm that you are good soil and you will produce a harvest!
  • Gratitude: Say “thank-you God” for all the seeds you have been given – those you are aware of and those you have not identified as yet.  Demonstrate your gratitude with faith by tending to your soil and seeds every day.

May God bless you

I AM HERE BY GOD’S GRACE!

2015 Theme/Action Requested: 2015 - MY BEST YEAR EVER!Therman E. Evans - Morning Star Sermon In Action
Scripture: 1 Kings 20:1-28. Focus verse: 28
Supporting Scriptures: 1 Corinthians 1:20, Genesis 28:15, Deuteronomy 31:6, Psalm 24:1-3, 145:3
Scriptural Focus: GOD’S GRACE

Sermon Highlights:

  • Thank you Jesus for 1) God’s greatness, 2) God’s grace 3) God’s glory
  • I am here because of God’s greatness
  • I am here by God’s grace
  • I am here to be God’s glory
  • God’s greatness is often more than what I perceive
  • It’s important that I get a revelation about God’s greatness
  • God is great no matter what my condition is. God’s greatness doesn’t change depending on where I am
  • God’s greatness IS!
  • God is still God! God is still great on the mountain top or in the valley
  • I can’t skip the valley! In the valley, God does His best work & gets His most glory!
  • In the valley, I have a tendency to look weak. God’s people are not weaklings! I am tougher than you think! I am tougher than the enemy thinks! I get my toughness from trusting God
  • God’s greatness is about the whole story
  • But I trust God & hear a word from God. When I listen to God, God delivers me!
  • God’s greatest glory comes from when His people (ME) are the most weak, inadequate, but they (ME) manage to get the courage to be tough enough to show up for the fight!
  • No matter how bad somebody has been to me, treats me, I am STILL nice to them & treat them good
  • I need to be clear: were it not for the grace of God, where would I be?
  • God’s grace is awesome! God’s grace finds me at my lowest point. God’s grace is a God given thing! I don’t deserve it, I haven’t earned it
  • Only God can handle grace!

  • Read and apply scripture: Review the scriptures for this sermon lesson (above) and this week make a conscious effort to rely on one of them in a moment of doubt or need and/or use as a basis for your daily meditation time. Getting to know and use scripture before moments of need  can actually reduce those ‘moments of need.’
  • Reflect & Write: Have I received a revelation about God’s greatness? Was there one specific situation or time in my life that caused me to know for sure that God is great?
  • Testify: God’s grace makes the difference! What are some of the ways that God’s grace has made a difference in your life?
  • Creative Application: During your Wednesday fast period, extend the grace of God to yourself. Extend the grace of God as a first response whenever someone offends, hurts, or treats you poorly. Sermon Highlights:

  • The power of God is available to ALL
  • The power is here to heal EVERYTHING!
  • THE POWER OF GOD IS PRESENT RIGHT NOW!
  • How do I know this? The power of God is in His Word & name. Praising God accesses the power of God, opens prison doors, scatters enemy armies, brings down barriers to my biggest blessings, heals diseases
  • Praise my way through!
  • Am I here to look, watch, observe, inspect others or am I here to experience the power of God & work on my paralysis? Am I here to inspect Jesus or to be intimate with him?
  • The issue is not “am I paralyzed?” The issue is WHERE am I paralyzed?
  • The paralyzed man in Luke 5:17-26 reflects the entire house
  • THE POWER OF GOD IS HERE, BUT IT MUST BE ACTIVATED BY FAITH!
  • Faith connects me to God, thereby activating the power of God in me
  • I am God’s appliance! Unless I am connected to Him I have no use
  • The house has power! I brought the power with me!
  • Don’t be cold, be fired up!
  • THE POWER OF GOD IS ACCELERATED BY MY PERSISTENCE!
  • Persistence = the refusal to give up, especially when faced with obstacles.
  • Persistence = substance & evidence; The way God recognizes faith; How I connect with God
  • Jesus perceives my thoughts & sees my faith
  • No one strolls up on a relationship with God! It’s not easy! it’s a fight, a battle, spiritual warfare, combat, collision
  • I gotta persist!

  • Read and apply scripture: This week, re-read the story of the paralytic in Luke 5:17-26. Put yourself in the role of the paralyzed man. Have you ever been this desperate? Do you have any friends who would do for you what this man’s friends did?
  • Testify: What is some of the evidence in your life that your relationship with God is hard won?

5)    Creative Application: If you were an appliance, what appliance would you be and why? How has God used you (like that appliance) to encourage His people, build His kingdom, spread His word and express His love on the earth? How can you let God use you this week –specifically?

THE FAVOR OF GOD

Scripture: Genesis 6:5-14a, Focus verse 8Therman E. Evans - Morning Star Sermon In Action

Scriptural Focus: THE FAVOR OF GOD

Sermon Highlights:

  • What are we thinking today as God’s people?
  • There is always someone who goes in the direction of God
  • Noah is me! I am Noah! Here I am God send me!
  • The us’s (me & others who are God people) are NOT prevailing
  • Us’s are only us’s around other us’s. When us’s are around thems it’s hard to tell who the us’s are!
  • God knows us’s! God knows who I am & how I am behaving
  • Noah was a true us amongst thems
  • It’s not easy being an us amongst thems! Am I fitting in?
  • My challenge – it’s not my problem. No movement starts in the collective. Everything starts small
  • Noah means rest
  • Favor & grace = the same thing, the presence of God
  • Favor of man is good. The favor of God is better! I want the favor of God!
  • The favor of God is: Not fair but it’s always good! God extends His favor to His people (us’s). It is the obligation of God to distinguish His people. In scripture, they catch the most hell, obtain the most favor!
  • God wants me distinguished!
  • The favor of God is: There for my fight! This is a fight. Am I even in the fight?
  • The favor of God is: For my future! Favor is not for something that has already happened! If I’m still alive I have a future! I’m here for a reason! I was born for this time!
  • I am not too cute to work for God! I am not righteous on my own. I have issues! Through faith in Jesus the Christ I AM RIGHTEOUS!
  • Noah built an ark. Noah wasn’t perfect!
  • People shouldn’t have trouble immediately identifying me as a child of God. I am an us. Us = the family of God
  • With God’s favor I am distinguished, defended, can defeat my enemies & I am enabled to achieve my destiny
  • Favor should give me: encouragement, courage & excitement

  • Catch yourself being an “us” this week. Stand up for or defend an unpopular but scriptural position amongst “thems.”

  • Begin to tithe. (If you don’t already.)

  • Are you too cute to work for God? Have you joined a ministry? Have you invited 5 people to church this past week? In the past month? Have you served a stranger in the last week? Someone outside of your family or immediate circle of friends?

  • Reflect on something you have done that you know has grieved God’s heart. What lesson(s) did you learn from that experience? How have you grown and matured spiritually from that experience?

THINK BIG! STOP LIMITING GOD!

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 9:6 Therman E. Evans - Morning Star Sermon In Action
Supporting Scriptures: Proverbs 19:17 & 22:9; Galatians 6:7; Romans 12:3; 1 Timothy 4:12; Matthew 5:16 & 19:26; Job 42:2; Luke 1:37; Philippians 4:13
Scriptural Focus: THINK BIG! STOP LIMITING GOD!

Sermon Highlights:

  • It’s important to think BIG!
  • I will not act/be BIG if I think small!
  • You don’t get something for nothing in this world. If I want more than peanuts in my life I will have to work for it!
  • I will reap what I sow! Sow a lot, reap a lot! Sow a little, reap a little!
  • It’s important to sow good stuff!
  • LEARN TO THINK FOR MYSELF! Put something on my mind! Develop my mind so I have something to think about. I can’t think for myself if I have nothing on my mind!
  • Be careful what I put in my mind. Read, read, read!
  • Learn how to think things through. God wants me to be a thinker!
  • LEARN TO THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX! See myself like God sees me.
  • Don’t stay in a box that others have created for me. God does not put me in a box or limit me – other people do.
  • I must think outside of MY box too!
  • I MUST THINK BIG! I was born to make an impact on the world. I am not here for myself.
  • Everything I do should be done to the glory of God. Speak life!
  • When I focus on myself (even if I’m doing something good) it creates conflict. Focus on myself = small thinker!
  • My bigness comes from my other-centeredness. I don’t grow big by limiting people, I grow big by serving people
  • We must teach our young people to think BIG!
  • I can’t behave BIG if I think small! I can’t give BIG if I think small! I can’t do BIG things if I think small!
  • I’m in the body! It’s not all about me. We are the body of Christ, NOT body parts of Christ!

This is the 4-question guide to determine if you’re being asked to do something you should do – share and discuss with your children:

  • Will what I’m being asked to do HONOR GOD?
  • Will what I’m being asked to do honor my parents and their teachings?
  • Will what I’m being asked to do benefit other people?
  • Will what I’m being asked to do help me or hurt me?

Sermon In Action - Suggested Activities:

  • DAILY AFFIRMATIONS:Say at least 10x per day, throughout the day as passionately as possible and as early as possible in the day… (Add your favorites)
  • I MUST THINK BIG!
  • I THINK FOR MYSELF!
  • THINK OUTSIDE MY BOX!
  • I WILL REAP WHAT I SOW!
  • IT’S NOT ALL ABOUT ME!
  • EVERYTHING I DO IS DONE TO THE GLORY OF GOD!
  • I GROW BIG BY SERVING PEOPLE!

  • How BIG is your thinking? This week, choose one area of your life (job/career, family/relationships, spiritual, ministry) and identify 3 BIG goals for the remaining months of 2015. Write  these goals down, repeat them each morning as daily affirmations.  (A BIG goal is one you can ONLY do with God!)
  • Take action daily and track your progress toward these goals in your journal.
  • Discuss the 4 questions above (to determine if  a person should do something) with the young people in your life. And ask them of yourself when making your own daily decisions.

May God bless you

MY BEST YEAR EVER – THE GRACE OF GIVING

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 8:1-7Therman E. Evans - Morning Star Sermon In Action
Supporting Scriptures: 1 John 4:8 & 11, Romans 13:8, Romans 15: 25-27, Galatians 6:6, Proverbs 11:24-25, 1 Corinthians 9:11, Luke 6:38
Scriptural Focus: THE GRACE OF GIVING

Sermon Highlights:

  • Giving is: an obligation, an outcome & an opportunity
  • An obligation = a responsibility, a duty, a binding contract, a requirement for participation
  • Giving = results that flow from a connection. No sense of obligation = no connection or maybe not as connected as I should/could be
  • Giving to the kingdom of God is an obligation that flows from my connection
  • Giving characterizes the kingdom of God. Giving describes the kingdom of God. Giving is what the kingdom of God is all about!
  • God is love. When I love, I give. If I love I give
  • I (we) must love each other
  • Free will = a gift from God. Love = a gift from God
  • My conversation must reflect my conduct!
  • When I am blessed spiritually, I owe it to the kingdom of God to be a material blessing too!
  • How much I have to give is NEVER the issue! The issue, according to God and the Word of God is my giving: generously, sacrificially, willingly & cheerfully
  • Giving is an outcome that results from my connection. An outcome of my connection to God is my desire to give
  • I CAN GIVE MORE: generously, sacrificially, willingly!
  • Giving is an opportunity to sow, plant, grow, transform. The word = seed in me

  • Make a list of all the groups, clubs, organizations that you are a member/part of. Note the requirements for membership. Are there dues? Are there meetings, conferences, events you must attend? How frequently? Did you sign a contract or agreement when you became a member? What are the requirements to be a member of the kingdom of God? Have you fulfilled those requirements?
  • If you are not a tither, re-examine that decision in light of today’s sermon lesson. If you are a tither, does your conversation reflect your conduct? Do your results match the connection you have to God?  What adjustments can you/will you make?
  • Reflect on this question every opportunity you get this week:  Have I completely yielded to the presence of God?

UNITY AND THE POWER OF AGREEMENT

Scripture: Acts 4:32-37Therman E. Evans - Morning Star Sermon In Action
Supporting Scriptures: Numbers 14:11-23, Matthew 5:16, 1 Peter 2:12, Philippians 2:14-15, Galatians 5:17-21, Acts 1:8
Scriptural Focus: UNITY AND THE POWER OF AGREEMENT

Sermon Highlights:

  • Unity is NOT uniformity!
  • Unity is a spiritual thing achieved through the presence of the Holy Spirit
  • Church = 1 body, all possessions belong to all. This environment can exist at my church
  • We are a body! The church/God’s people is how God demonstrates & puts His power on display
  • Acting in unity = Acting in power. Spiritual unity = the best unity!
  • How to break up God’s program? There’s always one with contrary beliefs, opinions. One person who sows discord in a ministry can create a mess. Just because there’s always one doesn’t mean it has to be me!
  • I can’t grumble or mumble my way up to God’s promise
  • Judas always hangs himself!
  • God wants me to stand out! God wants me to stand up! God expects me to stand out! God expects me to stand up!
  • I’m God’s child! God wants me to display His power so God gets the glory
  • All of us have demons! God gave me his Holy Spirit to resist & fight my demons
  • Help someone with their demon!
  • Power is required to live a holy & righteous life. Through the power that flows from God’s Holy Spirit I can live a holy, righteous & faithful life
  • I’ve got the power! I can do it! I owe everything to God!
  • God 1st, everything else 2nd!
  • Be a tither! Tithing is important. It’s a spiritual concept. God is my source. Everything I have belongs to God
  • I am a tither because: I want to spread God’s word, I want God to be glorified, I am obedient to God, I help win souls for Christ, I bring help to the needy, I am connected to God, I am committed to God, I am willing to sacrifice, I am willing to serve, I am generous
  • I can be a tither! I can do it now!

2)  Reflect on the spiritual act of tithing:

  1. A) If you are not a tither, write down the reasons why you do NOT tithe. Review your list in light of today’s sermon lesson.  Reflect on the changes you need to make
  2. B) If you are a tither, write down the reasons why you DO tithe. Review your list in light of today’s sermon lesson. Reflect on how you can be even more joyful about tithing
  3. C) Imagine yourself – whether you currently tithe or not –  as a joyous and consistent tither, reaping even more abundant blessings from God. Sit quietly with that vision daily.

3)  Reflect on your role, thoughts and actions as a member of your family, marriage and/or relationships, church family/ministry, work team and community member – are you a disruptor, working against God’s program or a facilitator of good for God? If the former, how can you and when will you  make the needed changes? If the latter, how can you go to an even higher level?

4)  This week, stand up and stand out for God! Make it clear and plain to at least five people how important God is to you, by inviting them to church.

May God bless you
